Blue Diamond sets Auction Sale Record!

Auctions for spectacular, natural blue diamonds are always making the news! In October of 2010, the 10.95 carat triangular blue diamond known as the Bulgari Blue was sold for $15.7 million dollars, making it the highest priced gemstone sold during 2010!

Previously, on May 12, 2009, an internally-flawless, 7.03 carat, emerald-cut, fancy, vivid blue diamon, set auction records at Sothebys after a brief but intense bidding war. The winning bidder paid $9.5 million dollars - the highest price per carat ever paid for a gemstone at auction! The winning bidder will have the right to name and/or reset that amazing stone. The diamond was originally cut from a 26 carat rough stone discovered in the Cullinan mine in South Africa. At time of sale, it was set in a simple, platinum ring setting.
